Lesson Plan

LESSON PLAN TITLE: BITS AND PIECES
FOUND AT:
http://www.eduplace.com/activity/pieces.html

The technologies used in this lesson are a digital camera, Inspiration software and podcast

Objectives of the technology:

• Digital camera-The digital camera would be used to take pictures of the three objects the child chooses to use in their story. The benefit of using digital pictures over simply bringing the objects to school would be that it allows more creativity. The child can take pictures of objects they would not be able to use in the traditional lesson plan (IE: picture of person, bridge, tree, animals).
• Inspiration software-They student could create a story map using graphics or text. The story map could also include elements of their story.
• Podcast could be done by each of the students of their story. Their story would include the objects they chose and could be published for others to enjoy.

Software and hardware requirements:

• Digital camera with computer software
• Computer and inspiration software
• Access to Internet and podcast
• Color printer-optional to print story map
• Overhead-optional to display story map

Skills required:

• Teacher-The teacher needs to be able to assist students in using the digital camera, Internet, podcast and inspiration software.
• Students-Students should have some knowledge of using podcast and story maps.

Reflection on the technology:

The digital camera will be useful and a means for the students to be more creative in their choice of objects. In the traditional lesson plan the child must choose objects that they can physically bring to the classroom. The camera allows the child to choose objects that are larger(trees, buildings) or are unable to be brought to class(person, animal). The students will utilize past knowledge of computers, story mapping and critical thinking skills as they create their story maps. The podcasts allows the students to apply what they have learned and share their stories with others. The podcast also helps students organization, presentation and audible skills.

LESSON PLAN TITLE: ROUND AND ROUND

The technologies used in this lesson are world side web (http://www.funderstanding.com/k12/coaster/), Inspiration software and digital video camera

Objectives of the technology:

• Digital video camera-The digital video camera would be used to take film of a roller coaster. The teacher could use the film to interoduce the lesson and science lesson plan. By viewing a roller coaster in action the teacher will grab the attention of the students, introduce the science concepts that will be taught and the activity of creating their own roller coaster.
• Inspiration software-The student could create a graph illustrating the laws of kinetic and potential energy.
• World wide web and the website software found at www.funderstanding.com This website will be used by the students to design their own rollercoaster and then experience a simulated ride on their roller coaster. This will help to illustrate the science concepts taught in this lesson

Software and hardware requirements:

• Digital video camera with computer software
• Computer and inspiration software
• Access to Internet
• Color printer-optional to print graph
• Overhead-optional to display story map

Skills required:

• Teacher-The teacher needs to be able to assist students in using Internet site and inspiration software. The teacher also needs knowledge in using the video camera for filming a real roller coaster and then previewing it to the class
• Students-Students should have some knowledge of using inspiration software and the website used to design their roller coaster.

Reflection on the technology:

The digital video camera will be used to film an actual roller coaster ride. The teacher would then use this film to catch the attention of their students and introduce the lesson plan. The intranet would be used to access the website needed to design their roller coasters. This activity will help to teach the concepts of Kinetic and Potential energy. Once the student’s roller coasters are designed, they will use the inspiration software to make a graph applying what they learned about kinetic energy.

Good use of technologies and nice reflections. Interesting use of video for the rollercoaster. From the ground or from inside the coaster? ;-)
